The Scam
According to Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Attorney General Todd Rokita, callers impersonating Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) staff are using a spoofed phone number to try to get personal information from people. The officials say the calls may appear to come from a PLA number but sound threatening or urgent, ask for personal, financial, or account information, and claim your professional license is at risk unless you act immediately. They say PLA will never request personal information such as Social Security numbers over the phone in this manner, threaten license suspension or legal action, or demand immediate payment.
The Targets
Licensed professionals and the general public in Indiana, according to the Governor and Attorney General.
